TASCQ (Traders in the Area Supporting the Cultural Quarter Ltd) was set up in 2003 by a number of traders in the Temple Bar Area. The company’s mission statement is ‘Responsible traders working together to promote, maintain, enhance and protect the distinctiveness of Temple Bar and to encourage positive partnerships between the commercial and cultural communities”.
TASCQ is an independent organisation, which represents traders in the Temple Bar area. Membership of TASCQ is voluntary and we now have over 90 members, representing a broad spectrum of businesses, organisations and resident associations in Temple Bar. These include restaurateurs, hoteliers, publicans, retailers, cultural centres, charities, resident groups and service providers who operate in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter. These groups have come together to form TASCQ with the aim of enhancing the local environment and promoting Temple Bar both at home and abroad. Each member pays a voluntary annual fee and these funds are used to improve the physical environment, organise events, liaise with local authorities and to market the area nationally and internationally.
Under the TASCQ constitution an AGM is facilitated every year. At this meeting the TASCQ board (a voluntary structure) propose a budget and set of area plans for the year. These are then either accepted or rejected by the members. Additionally each year the current board must resign and a new board is appointed by the members. The board of directors are not paid any dividend or stipend nor are they in receipt of any expenses for attendance at meetings or away days.
This year’s board consists of:
• Oliver Hughes: The Porterhouse (Chair)
• Martin Keane: The Oliver St. John Gogarty
• Paul Fitzpatrick: The Morgan Hotel
• Tom Cleary: The Temple Bar Pub
• Michael Noonan: Temple Bar Residents Association
