Temple Bar Tops in Dublin City
Sep 8, 2008

Temple Bar has emerged victorious in the annual Tidy Towns Competition, having been named last night Dublin City’s Tidiest area for the first time ever.

The Temple bar Tidy Towns project is organised and funded by local traders group TASCQ, who over the last five years have raised almost 2 million euro in voluntary contributions from local traders to support local environmental, cultural and marketing activities.

According to TASCQ Director Martin Harte, ‘This represents a huge achievement for the area and proves that Temple Bar can be a serious contender for top honours in the national tidy town’s competition’.  Temple Bar scored 253 marks out of a possible 400 and in the process unseated last year’s winners, Raheny by just a single point.  TASCQ employ 7 people on a full time basis including 5 street cleaning operatives who provide street washing and cleansing services in the area 7 days per week in addition to the service provided by Dublin City Council.

According to a recent An Tasice Litter Surveys Temple Bar is now the cleanest areas of Dublin City scoring an impressive 84%, 85 % represents litter free to European norms.  TASCQ also organised the recent ‘Invoke Street Art’ competition which seen the areas utility boxes transformed into pieces of public art.  Temple Bar attracts a whopping 70,000 visitors on a daily basis is home to 3000 residents and is one of Dublin’s’ premier tourist attractions.
